COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two people were taken to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation after a house fire in central Columbia Friday night.

According to a Saturday news release from the Columbia Fire Department, crews were called to a home in the 800 block of Broadhead Street, a street between West Ash Street and West Worley Street off of West Boulevard, around 9:15 p.m. on Friday.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the back of a story-and-a-half house. Firefighters entered the home to find no one inside and began battling the flames, the release says. After the fire was put out, crews stayed on scene to keep an eye out for possible hot spots.

Six firetrucks were at the scene when ABC 17 News arrived at 9:30 p.m. on Friday. An ambulance arrived without its sirens on shortly after. The road was blocked off by first responders.

The release says all residents had exited the home before CFD arrived, and the Columbia Fire Marshal's Battalion is investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
