Truman VA receives funds for improving infrastructure

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital has received funding as part of a nationwide $4.8 billion effort to modernize or fix up Veterans Health Administration health care facilities.

According to a news release from Truman VA, the funding will go toward projects that aim to correct structural deficiencies, modernize the elevators, repair mechanical systems, renovate behavioral health spaces, repair parking structure deficiencies, and replace flooring in the emergency department.

“This funding allows us to continue modernizing and improving, so our facility remains safe, efficient, and equipped to provide high-quality care for our Veterans,” Truman VA medical director Paul Hopkins said.

The news release said this investment is another way the Veterans Affairs Department is working to improve veteran care. It cited other improvements like enrolling more than 300,000 new veterans in health care in 2026, opening dozens of new VA health care facilities and setting records for veterans care appointments since January 2025.
