COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMI)

A Cole County man was charged with two counts of felony stealing after a chase in an allegedly stolen car Wednesday afternoon.

Travis Adamson, 35, was charged Thursday with one count of felony theft of a motor vehicle and one count of felony stealing for allegedly taking an e-bike. He remained in the Cole County Jail on no bond Thursday afternoon.

A woman allegedly told investigators that Adamson stole her car Wednesday as he was at her home while she slept, according to a probable cause statement. Cole County deputies chased the Chevrolet Malibu until Adamson crashed it into a ditch on Highway 17 and ran, a Cole County Sheriff's Office news release states.

Deputies found Adamson about 100 yards away in the wooded area, the release states. Schools in Eugene were locked down during the chase, the sheriff's office says.

Adamson is also charged with stealing a rented e-bike from a Citgo gas station at 105 W. Dunklin St. on Tuesday.

No hearings had been set as of Thursday afternoon.
