Federal funds dedicated to help clean up polluted Superfund site in Maries County

The old hat factory sits on a 7.9-acre Superfund site in Vienna that includes two public drinking wells contaminated by the factory’s operations. Two companies operated on the site from 1952 to 1996, contaminating the soil and groundwater with harmful compounds called PCEs which are believed to contribute to cancer.

MARIES COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ) The Maries County sheriff said a drug overdose killed a Rolla man Wednesday night. Sheriff Chris Heitman wrote on the department’s Facebook page that 31-year-old William Ross was found dead in his pickup truck by a woman. St. James man charged with second-degree murder after fentanyl overdose

ST. JAMES, Mo. (KMIZ) A Saint James man is now charged with second-degree murder in connection to a fentanyl overdose that happened in Maries County. Tanner Orr, 26, is also charged with delivery of a controlled substance. Kenneth Ahart Junior was found dead in his home in Saint James on Oct. 12 from an overdose.
