Mizzou volleyball thrashes Mississippi State on ‘Dig Pink’ night

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Tigers put on their annual 'Dig Pink' night to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Tonight's game hit closer to home for Mizzou, as the team honored survivors of the disease before the action, including assistant coach Lauren Cost.

Mizzou dominated in the first set of the game, racing its way to a 15-8 lead for the first break in the action. They followed up just as quickly, outscoring the Bulldogs 10-5 in the final stretch to claim the opening frame by more than 10 points.

Mississippi State fought to keep the second closer, never trailing by more than five points. Despite the Bulldogs showing more fight in the later sets, they still did not take their first lead until the score was 20-19 in the third set. However, Mizzou answered closing the game on a 6-3 run to steal set three and sweep the game.

The Tigers were led by Paige Felder with 14 kills and just three errors. Kimani Johnson was the only other Mizzou player in double figures with 10 kills, helping lift the team to its best offensive showing since conference play began. Defensively, Libero Ainoah Cruz topped the scoresheet with 16 digs of the team's 48.

Up Next - Mizzou will be back at home to take on Alabama for Senior Night, on Sunday, Oct. 18. Tip off is currently scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
