Driver identified in serious Boone County crash, could face criminal charges

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Boone County Sheriff's Office confirmed the name of one of the drivers in Wednesday's serious crash on St. Charles Road and said they've sent a recommendation for charges to the prosecutor's office.

The sheriff's office identified 49-year-old Melvin A. Warrick as the driver they referred to the prosecutor. Warrick and the other driver went to the hospital after the crash; as of Friday afternoon, Warrick is in fair condition.

The crash happened Wednesday afternoon on East St. Charles Road near the entrance to Lake of the Woods golf course. The sheriff's office said there was a male and a female driver, and that the male driver was driving eastbound at a high rate of speed when he crossed the center line and hit the other vehicle head-on.

At the time, the sheriff's office said the male driver did not have a driver's license.
