COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 61-year-old Southport, Florida woman was treated at University Hospital after she needed to be rescued from the Missouri River on Monday near Rocheport.

Sgt. Kyle Green of the Missouri State Highway Patrol told ABC 17 News that a female fell out of a boat that ran out of fuel after it drifted under a barge.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol boat/drowning report, this happened near the 186-mile marker of the river just after 6 p.m. The woman went into the water and was swept away when the boat she was in went adrift and hit the barge.

The woman was taken to the hospital by Cooper County EMS with minor injuries.

The boat is currently stuck and will not be pulled in on Monday night. Green indicated it could take a couple of days to be dealt with.
